Neal Communities Takes a Stand for Pets

SARASOTA, Fla., April 6, 2011 - As a part of its ongoing commitment to improving the overall quality of life of the community, Neal Communities is stepping up as a sponsor of the Humane Society of Manatee County’s (HSMC) Paws in Motion event. This is one of the two major fundraisers the Humane Society holds to support operations. The Paws in Motion dog walk takes place Saturday, April 9 at 9 am along the Riverfront in downtown Bradenton.

“Everyone needs a home—and that includes our pets. We applaud the work of the Humane Society to keep dogs and cats in their homes,” says Neal Communities President Pat Neal.  “I’m impressed with the proactive and preventive emphasis of their work. They are serving our community and helping to make this an even better place to live.”

The Humane Society of Manatee County provides low-cost, spay/neuter services for dogs and cats throughout the region, thus dramatically reducing the number of unwanted pets here. The mission of HSMC is to create a no-kill community where animals receive the compassion and respect they deserve.

The goal for Paws in Motion is to top the $30,000 the event raised last year. Bradenton Mayor Wayne Poston will again serve as honorary chair and lead the walk. Any walker who raises $50 or more receives a tee shirt. The top money raiser’s dog (or cat!) has the honor of serving as the  HSMC’s spokesdog for the next year. New at this event, there will be a playground for doggies so that the owners can put their dogs through their paces in hurdles and obstacles.

While “Humane” is included in the name, the HSMC is not associated with any other humane society. It is a community-based, private non-profit organization that relies entirely on private donations.  It receives no funds from any national organization or government entity.
